The company took a step forward in the 1980s with Cherrhisky, relying heavily on imported Scotch whisky and molasses-based liqueur. At that time, they were the leading producer of “Ji-whisky” from Tohoku.

After that particular whisky boom ended, Sasanokawa Shuzo stopped distilling his own whisky in the Yamazakura distillery. They also had a large stock of whisky maturing in various casks at the distillery. Despite not producing their own whisky at the time, the renowned company came to their rescue. Ichiro Akuto , who needed a place to store around 400 barrels of Hanyu in 2004. A company that they eventually ended up buying to definitively become Asaka.
