Para cada expresión de The Macallan, la calidad del whisky depende en gran medida de la calidad de las barricas de roble en las que madura, así como de la calidad de nuestro destilado de "nueva creación" destilado a partir de agua, levadura y cebada.

Dado que hasta el 80 % del carácter y el sabor finales de The Macallan están determinados por la calidad de la barrica, la barrica de roble es el factor más importante para garantizar y ofrecer la calidad y el estilo de nuestro whisky de pura malta.

The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid , a barley farmer and schoolmaster. The original name of the area was “Maghellan,” derived from the Gaelic word “magh,” meaning fertile land, and “Ellan,” after the monk St. Fillan, who maintained a close association with the church that stood on the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had been making whisky on their Speyside farms in the area for centuries, using their surplus barley during the quieter winter months.

The Macallan's reputation is built on a product of exceptional quality and distinctive character, based on a set of guiding principles. From place to process, people to passion, these six pillars form the backdrop to The Macallan's unique spirit.

It is currently distilled at the award-winning The Macallan distillery, built in 2018.
