Islay is the fifth largest island in Scotland and the sixth largest of those surrounding Great Britain (excluding Ireland).

Islay has just over 3,000 inhabitants. Its total area is more than 600 square kilometers. Its main industries are whisky distillation and whisky-related tourism, as well as birdwatching.
