We know where our home is. It's a small town called Aberlour . Here are our roots and our future.
We take pride in our home, which is why we source our ingredients here. Our fresh, pure water comes from nearby springs in Birkenbush, and our barley is sourced from local farms no more than 15 miles away. By sourcing locally, we can guarantee purity and quality while respecting the environment.
Our distilled spirit, known as freshly made spirit, is the key to our quality single malt whisky.
With meticulous craftsmanship and respect for our natural ingredients, we create a delicate spirit with subtle hints of blackcurrant, red berries, and citrus, perfect for maturing in our sherry casks. Every day, our master distiller inspects each batch of this new spirit, carefully attending to every detail before pouring it into our specially selected casks and allowing it to mature into Aberlour single malt whisky.
Each year, we connect with our partners at their sherry cellars. After decades of collaboration, we have forged a relationship of understanding, respect, and trust.
Working together to create the perfect cask to complement our new brewing process, our casks are built and prepared to our exact specifications using Spanish oak and conditioned with oloroso sherry. Finally, when the sherry has finished developing its rich flavors, we aim to bring the casks to Scotland during the cold winter months to preserve their qualities.
Why do we go to so much trouble? The answer lies in every drop of Aberlour single malt whisky, because greater care leads to greater reward.
Our master distiller, Graeme Cruickshank, has over 35 years of experience in the industry and has always been immersed in the world of whisky. Graeme takes pride in showcasing Aberlour, Speyside, and Scotland, deeply appreciating the beauty of his homeland.
He remains committed to sharing his expertise and the unique qualities of Aberlour, dedicating himself to promoting Aberlour's legacy of craftsmanship, both in the spirit and in the cask. Graeme continues to embody James Fleming's family motto: "Let the action show."
The qualities that make Aberlour whisky unique are largely due to our expertise in double barrel maturation.
Almost without exception, all our single malts are made from liquid whisky aged in both sherry casks and American oak barrels.
Over the years, the sherry cask imparts sweetness and warm, rich fruity notes. American oak contributes hints of vanilla and a smooth, delicate finish. By combining these elements, Aberlour's experts create a single malt of exceptional sophistication.
