1740
Our story begins at Domaine de La Villebague, in the village of Pamplemousses, where the first sugar mill was built in 1740 and the first rum distillery was born in 1743.
1838
Victor, Pierre and Eugène Harel acquire the Belle Vue sugar plantation, in the Pamplemousses neighborhood.
This acquisition marked the beginning of the Harel Frères group. Thanks to Pierre Charles Harel's vision, distillation techniques improved significantly, along with the legal framework. The group is considered a pioneer of distillation on the island.
1932
Harel Frères acquires part of Mauritius OK Distillery Co. Ltd to improve its distillation process.
1969
Harel Frères acquires Mauritius OK Distillery Co. Ltd. in its entirety, now Grays Inc Ltd = New Grove Distillery.
2003
Grays Inc Ltd. creates the New Grove rum brand and Mauritius' first aging cellar.
2012
Harel Frères rebranding: Terra.
2020
New Grove wins the title of World's Best Rum at the International Sugar Cane Spirit Awards.
New Grove's exclusivity lies in the land that once saw the first distillery, back in the days of the East India Company.
