Protos Winery

Sipsmith Independent Spirits

The beginnings are important for the winery as they represent the implementation of the Strategy: Quality as the highest priority and Brand as a sustainable competitive advantage. This is demonstrated by the gold medal awarded to our first wines, from 1927 and 1928, at the 1929 Barcelona Universal Exposition.

In 1986, a new winery was acquired in the municipality of Anguix (Burgos), surrounded by high-quality old vineyards. This winery has undergone technical improvements and expansions over the years, and is now the Protos High Technology Winemaking Center, inaugurated in 2019.

In 2006, Bodegas Protos began its journey in the Rueda Designation of Origin with the production of Protos Verdejo, thus transferring our know-how to the production of quality white wines.

In 2008, Protos, true to its roots but committed to staying at the forefront of the sector, built a new winery in Peñafiel, Ribera del Duero. These magnificent facilities, designed by the prestigious architecture firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (led by the architectural genius Richard Rogers, winner of the 2007 Pritzker Architecture Prize) in collaboration with Alonso Balaguer y Arquitectos Asociados, feature the latest technological advancements for producing premium wines.
