Galicia is identity, dreams, tradition, and deep roots. A land of legends, the scent of wet grass, green inland, and a deep blue coastline with winding, rugged waters. Here, at the westernmost edge of this land, lies the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin.
In all its wonderful diversity, the Rías Baixas are a paradise for vineyards. The viticultural terroir is responsible for the identity of the native grapes and their wines. The climate is oceanic, mild and humid, with very high rainfall. The sandy soils rest on granitic bedrock. And in this corner of the world, among trellised vines, our wines are born, imbued with salinity, minerality, and high acidity.
Mar de Frades cultivates its own vineyards in Salnés and, since 2016, also in Ribeira do Ulla, the northernmost and inland subzone of the entire appellation. We own 60 hectares and also collaborate with 200 small, independent winegrowers. Throughout the vineyard, we work the vines with care and passion, respecting the environment and the soils, with the aim of obtaining grapes of maximum expressiveness, balance, and purity.
Paula leads the Mar de Frades winery team as manager and winemaker, renewing the energy and character of her wines with each vintage. For her, crafting great white wines holds no secrets. A graduate of the University of Santiago de Compostela, she has managed Mar de Frades since 2007. Years of work, innovation, and knowledge of the terroir and its virtues have made her one of the most prestigious experts on Albariño.
The essence of our winery is inspired by the diversity of the Atlantic, its boundless power, its immense beauty, and its fresh, salty aroma. Our purpose: to reflect its character, personality, and style in everything we do.
We adapt viticulture to the unique conditions of the Atlantic environment, taking into account factors such as humidity and sea winds. We employ special training systems and manual labor for precise vineyard management, striving to produce exceptionally high-quality fruit that reflects the spirit of the Atlantic.
