Bodegas Godeval was founded in 1986, carrying out an initial winemaking process to produce a single-varietal wine based on the Godello grape variety.
We started with 2 hectares of vineyards and producing 18,000 bottles of what was known as Viña Godeval. In 1988 we expanded production with the opening of the winery inside the building known as “Mosteiro de Xagoaza”.
In 1974, Horacio Fernández Presa, as head of the regional Agricultural Extension office, launched the REVIVAL Program. The core of the project was the recovery of the native Godello grape variety. A comprehensive information and training program was implemented to make its recovery a reality.
In 1988, restoration and renovation work began on the Monastery. A beautiful medieval complex to be transformed into the Godeval winery.
Currently, the winery has the most modern winemaking technology in new facilities inaugurated in 2009. Annual production is 150,000 liters made with our own vineyards.
The winery has expanded its vineyards over the years, always adhering to the same philosophy of seeking out slate soils with slopes and a southern exposure. The first vines were planted between the 1970s and 1980s by the winery's founders on the steepest slopes in the region, in the Xagoaza area. The average age of the vines is over 15 years. A large portion of the vineyards face south, thus guaranteeing the sunlight that leads to perfect ripening. The slope of the land and the slate soil ensure good ventilation and healthy grapes. From the first vineyards planted on estates such as "Liebres" and "Pancho," wines with very special characteristics are produced, such as Godeval Cepas Vellas and Godeval Revival.
