Pago de los Capellanes is located one kilometer from Pedrosa de Duero, a town that in the 14th century housed a parish in which chaplains offered masses in exchange for small plots of land. Over time, the microplots accumulated, gathering an extensive payment that the confiscation of Mendizábal (1855) returned to the town. The inhabitants of Pedrosa continue to call these lands the Pago de los Capellanes.

In its vineyards, the best clones of the local grape are grown almost exclusively: Tinto Fino or Tempranillo. Yields well below those allowed by the Regulatory Council of the area, together with extreme meticulousness in both the vineyards and the winery, have made Pago de los Capellanes one of the most respected and admired wineries of the designation of origin. Ribera del Duero.

During the months prior to the harvest, daily controls are carried out in the vineyard and aging takes place in an underground cellar 10 meters deep. Nor is the choice of oak for aging random; at Pago de los Capellanes we work with 22 different types of French oak, whose staves dried in the open air and subsequently toasted help to age the wine in an elegant and progressive way.

The winery, whose first phase was built in 1996, was integrated into the landscape from the beginning, preserving the eight century-old walnut trees that adorn the vineyard. Today it produces five of the best wines in the appellation, with Tempranillo as the star and the plots of El Nogal and El Picón as the most special wines. All of them are distinguished by their structure and elegance, combining perfectly ripened fruit with a depth available to very few; They are wines that speak of their landscape, of history and that look to the future with confidence, great jewels of the Ribera del Duero.
