The smooth, pure spring water, exclusive to our distillery, is distilled very slowly and then aged in bespoke sherry-seasoned oak casks in our cellars in Spain. This creates a complex yet refined whisky, naturally coloured with delicate sherry notes, supported by layers of fruity depth.
Crafted by a small team of long-standing whisky makers, only a limited volume is released each year.

Founded in 1879 with a vision to create a lighter spirit that would be a harmonious counterpoint to the norm, to this day The Glenrothes continues to distill an exceptionally elegant spirit that matures in a distinctive way, just as it was specifically designed to do nearly 150 years ago.

To craft our whisky, we only use pure spring water from four private sources. Filtered through rocks formed millions of years ago, gravity naturally draws the water down from the hills of our estate to the distillery. This extremely smooth, impurity-free water requires no human intervention and provides a clean, light mouthfeel that underpins our spirit’s elegant character.

Patience is the hallmark of The Glenrothes distillation process. We distill at a flow rate approximately half the speed of other well-known distilleries. Using unusually tall stills, our distillation process optimises contact with copper to remove heavy flavour compounds, creating a bright, fruity and nuanced spirit with refined complexity.

We use sherry-seasoned oak casks made to our specifications and manage the ageing process with a precision that takes advantage of both the spirit and the cask. Initially, the interaction with the cask brings intense, bright flavours to our freshly made spirit, and after around 15 years, the ripe fruit notes of our spirit become progressively more refined and fragrant.
