CRISTOM Jessie Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

It comes from a steep hillside in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon, with volcanic soils and a cool climate that define its character. Planted in 1994, this vineyard combines sustainable practices with minimal intervention in the winery. Its production is limited and meticulous, reflecting the rugged character of the land and Cristom's artisanal philosophy. This label represents one of the most structured and distinctive expressions in the winery's portfolio.

DESCRIPCIÓN

It originates from the dramatic Jessie vineyard, planted in 1994 and situated on a steep east-southeast slope in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon. This 11.5-acre plot, with a gradient of up to 33%, features a diverse array of volcanic soils (Jory, Nekia, Witzel, Ritner, and Saum), many of them shallow, demanding deep roots and generous yields of flavor . Since its inception in 1998, this plot has been one of Cristom's most distinctive .

With certified sustainable cultivation and a gentle biodynamic approach, densities of 2,311 vines/acre are maintained, fostering competition among the plants and producing small, highly concentrated grapes. In the winery, fermentation takes place with native yeasts, using almost 49% whole cluster fermentation, in open vats, followed by gentle pressing and extended aging (17–18 months) in new French oak barrels (30%).

The 2022 vintage maintains the powerful and structured essence of the site. Critics such as Decanter, Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling, and others consistently awarded 96 points, highlighting a harmonious blend of vibrant red fruit, earthy spices, and a grounding sensation reminiscent of minerals and undergrowth. The volcanic soils are reflected in the vintage's typicity, resulting in an articulate wine that balances power, structure, and elegance .

From the vineyard, intense notes of purple flowers, aromatic herbs, and a saline-savory quality are perceived, combined with ripe berries and a firm tannic architecture, presenting Jessie as an emblematic example of its terroir . Ken's Wine Guide defines it as medium-bodied, with integrated acidity and a silky texture that offers a balanced, complex and persistent profile .

Ultimately, the Jessie Vineyard 2022 is a bottle that symbolizes both strength and delicacy, reflecting in every layer the volcanic soil, the steep slope, the artisanal care, and the family history of Cristom. A wine that embodies the unique character of its terroir, without needing to praise its flavor or suggest culinary pairings.
