Nordés House

Sipsmith Independent Spirits

Nordés is the premium gin of Galician origin, which was born as a tribute to its land and which in a few years became the revolutionary gin that sublimates the known, for its authentic character and its exquisite flavor.

Juan Luis Méndez and Xoan Cannas imagined a Galician gin while eating octopus in Chantada (Lugo) and created Nordés Gin on April 18, 2012.

One a winemaker, the other a renowned expert in the world of wine and a Golden Nose. They simply wanted a gin after lunch that reminded them of their roots. Galicia is a land of spirits, perhaps due to the harsh winters in the interior of the region or its extensive wine production, but until now, there was no Galician gin. So they brought Pepe Albela, a master distiller, on board and got to work. Three ingredients that, when blended well, could create a winning formula.

They sought out free time to develop it, secretly, because no one around them believed the project had any future. They did.

The packaging was deemed essential, so they drew inspiration from classic Galician Sargadelos ceramics to design the bottle. The result stands out on supermarket shelves and at any bar. Blue and red on white, leaving behind the obsession with seeing the bottle's contents.

They had a clear idea of the type of gin they wanted. They wanted to move away from the Dry Gin that filled the displays in pubs and nightclubs and create a new concept: Atlantic Gin, a wine-infused gin made from Albariño grapes, with aromas of Galician herbs, designed for those who don't usually drink gin. "An easy-drinking gin that will appeal to those who don't like gin," they repeated like a mantra.
