Methuselah

Sipsmith Independent Spirits

Today, Matusalem rum is owned by Claudio Álvarez Soriano, great-grandson of Evaristo Álvarez, one of the company's founders. The brand produces its rums in the Dominican Republic, although its headquarters are in Miami, where the family went into exile after Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba in 1959.

The brand was relaunched in 2002 and today boasts a total of six varieties. Among them, the Solera 23 stands out, a gran reserva rum aged for 23 years, with a market price exceeding 65 euros. The brand considers this the highest quality variety it has ever produced.

Following this, the 15-year-old Gran Reserva rum stands out as the brand's flagship product, known as the "cognac of rums" due to the similarities in their production processes. As with the Solera 23 line, it's best enjoyed neat or on the rocks, but always without carbonated beverages. This is a special case, as its bottle retains the same shape as the first ones produced. It is joined by the Solera 10, Solera 7, Extra Añejo, and Platino.
