Located in the village of Lagavulin on the south coast of Islay, the Lagavulin Distillery is a beacon for those who wish to experience the deep culture and craftsmanship of Scotland's famous Islay whisky region.

The origins of the Lagavulin distillery date back to 1742. However, its true transformation began with the arrival of Peter Mackie in 1878. His numerous innovations and unwavering dedication to quality propelled the distillery to new heights. Peter Mackie's pioneering spirit remains a guiding light for Lagavulin throughout the centuries and continues to captivate whisky lovers with its rich peaty flavors and storied history.

The windy island of Islay imparts a deep strength of character to everything it grows, and it is here, nestled in a secluded bay, that the prized Lagavulin whisky has been meticulously crafted for over two centuries.

Distilleries have dotted Lagavulin since the 18th century, but it wasn't until 1816 that farmer John Johnston established the first legal distillery. A year later, Archibald Campbell started a second operation. These pioneers later united under a Glasgow merchant, and in 1887, Peter Mackie took the helm. Under Mackie's visionary leadership, the distillery and the Lagavulin name rose to become the quintessential Islay malt.
