Lagavulin Distillery

Located in the village of Lagavulin on the south coast of Islay, the Lagavulin Distillery is a beacon for those who wish to experience the deep culture and craftsmanship of Scotland's famous Islay whisky region.

The origins of the Lagavulin distillery date back to 1742. However, its true transformation began with the arrival of Peter Mackie in 1878. His numerous innovations and unwavering dedication to quality propelled the distillery to new heights. Distilleries have dotted Lagavulin since the 18th century, but it wasn't until 1816 that farmer John Johnston established the first legal distillery. A year later, Archibald Campbell started a second operation. These pioneers later united under a Glasgow merchant, and in 1887, Peter Mackie took the helm. Under Mackie's visionary leadership, the distillery and the Lagavulin name rose to become the quintessential Islay malt.
