The monks who founded the abbey began cultivating vines and producing wine. They chose this location, on the banks of the Duero River, because of its importance for viticulture. Today, the winery, perfectly integrated into its beautiful surroundings, is one of the most prestigious in the area and, since early 2022, has held its own Protected Designation of Origin .
A quality seal recognized by the European Union, guaranteeing Abadía Retuerta wine as a product with a secure origin, quality, and tradition. It certifies the unique soils of Abadía Retuerta and the fullest expression of its terroir, understood as the climatic and geographical characteristics that endow its vineyards and grapes with unique qualities, and the distinctive character of its wines.
The quality of their wines shows a unique identity and is governed by a single criterion: working with their own grapes, which come directly from their vineyards and are produced in their own winery.
