The Glenfiddich Distillery

In the summer of 1886, accompanied by his seven sons and two daughters, William set out to fulfill his lifelong ambition. Together they began building their distillery by hand, stone by stone. After just one year of work, it was finished, and William named it Glenfiddich, which in Gaelic means Valley of the Deer.

William's passion, determination, and pioneering spirit continue to guide us today. Glenfiddich is one of the few single malt distilleries that remains entirely family-owned and is now the world's most awarded single malt Scotch whisky*, a true reflection of our founder's innovative nature, passed down through generations.

Sandy Grant Gordon, William's great-grandson, is so proud of our single malt whisky that he's making Glenfiddich the first to actively promote itself outside of Scotland. Consumers worldwide, accustomed to blended whiskies, are being introduced to the delights of single malt whisky. Until then, it was a well-kept secret of the Scots.

Independent as ever, innovation flourishes at Glenfiddich. With over 35 years of experience and industry-wide acclaim, our fifth Master Maltster created the Solera Vat, a pioneering process used to craft our 15 Year Old. This expression continues to be celebrated for its complex and intense flavors.
