The distillery was built in 1910 in the Spanish Mission style, designed by Joseph & Joseph Architects, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as Old Prentice Distillery.
The aging and bottling facilities are located in Cox's Creek, a bucolic setting south of Lawrenceburg.
Founded in 1888 by Paul Jones Jr., who named the brand "Four Roses" inspired by a romantic story during his courtship.
During Prohibition, Four Roses survived as a medicinal whiskey. After its acquisition by Seagram in 1943, sales of bourbon in the U.S. were discontinued until the 1990s, remaining available primarily in Europe and Japan.
In 2002 the brand was acquired by Kirin Brewery Company (Japan), bringing Kentucky Straight bourbon back to the USA under the leadership of the legendary Jim Rutledge (1995-2015), followed by Brent Elliott as Master Distiller.
