Maison Ferrand is one of the world's leading boutique producers of fine spirits and a pioneer of a historic movement in the sector. Founded by Alexandre Gabriel in 1989, the company's mission is to preserve time-honored artisanal production methods that capture the true expression of the spirit , while simultaneously revisiting classics and driving innovation.
The adventure began with Ferrand Cognac, a 100% Grande Champagne cognac with roots in the region stretching back more than four centuries and ten generations. In 1996, Alexandre created Citadelle Gin, the Gin of France, leading the French gin movement. Due to the strict regulations imposed by Cognac's Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), Alexandre Gabriel was forced to cease using his cognac stills for seven months of the year. After five long years of negotiations, he obtained AOC authorization to distill gin during the period when the stills were typically idle, giving new life and purpose to the traditional copper pot stills.
In 1999, Alexandre introduced Plantation Rum, reflecting his passion for traditional rum-making techniques and implementing the distinctive double-aging process that sets these spirits apart. After several years of aging in bourbon barrels in the tropics, Plantation Rum is shipped to Château de Bonbonnet in France, where it undergoes a second maturation in French Ferrand oak barrels, enhancing the rum with delicate tannic nuances.
In March 2017, Maison Ferrand acquired the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados and a one-third stake in the renowned company, which owns the Clarendon, Long Pond, and Inswood distilleries. With these exceptional production resources, Alexandre Gabriel realized his vision of creating exceptional rums through a process of continuous experimentation that blends modern techniques with time-honored methods of crafting fine rums.
Since 1989, surrounded by an enthusiastic team, Alexandre has dedicated himself to the mission of creating magnificent liqueurs that express the union of passion, terroir and the passage of time.
Maison Ferrand has its offices and production facilities at the 18th-century Château de Bonbonnet in Ars, in France's legendary Cognac region. Marketing and finance departments are located in Paris. Consumers worldwide appreciate the company's spirits brands, which are distributed in over 89 countries through some of the world's most prestigious retail outlets.
