Tinta de Toro is a red grape variety native to the Toro region, in the province of Zamora, Spain. It is a variant of Tempranillo , but has developed its own characteristics due to the climatic and geographical conditions of the area, which differentiates it from Tempranillo from other regions such as Rioja or Ribera del Duero.

Characteristics:

  • Color: It produces wines with a very intense, almost opaque color, due to the high concentration of pigments in its skin.
  • Aromas and flavours : Tinta de Toro wines often have notes of ripe black fruits (blackberries, plums), spices, cocoa, and sometimes a mineral touch. They often have more rustic and earthy aromas compared to Tempranillo from other areas.
  • Body : Wines made from this grape are powerful and robust, with considerable body and a strong tannic structure.
  • Alcohol : Tinta de Toro wines tend to have a high alcohol content due to the region's warm climate, which favors full ripening of the grapes and a high concentration of sugars.
  • Acidity : Despite its power, the grape maintains a balanced acidity, which helps to give freshness to the wines and compensate for their high alcohol content.

Tinta de Toro is prized for its ability to produce wines with great longevity, robustness and character, reflecting the harsh climate and soil of the Toro region.
