El Regajal is a unique estate located in the municipality of Aranjuez, on the southern border of the Community of Madrid, known since the mid-19th century to entomologists worldwide. Its lands are home to 77 of the 225 species of Lepidoptera found on the Iberian Peninsula, interesting not only for their number but also for the rarity of some of them.
The estate is structured around a main valley, surrounded by hills and knolls, with lateral valleys, traversed by a runoff stream fed by seepage from the Ontígola Sea. Its vegetation is dominated by kermes oak, interspersed with esparto grass, broom, thyme, olive groves, and vineyards. Its continental climate, with cold winters and hot, dry summers, tempered by the Tagus and Jarama rivers, gives it a unique microclimate.
