DESCRIPCIÓN
It's a vibrant and approachable expression of the varietal, crafted by the Donaldson family in the Waipara Valley, north of Canterbury, New Zealand. This wine faithfully reflects Main Divide's philosophy: to produce wines with regional character, balance, and personality, true to their origin while remaining enjoyable from the first sip.
Sourced from carefully selected vineyards, many of them without irrigation and situated on stony, well-drained soils, the 2020 Chardonnay benefited from a mild and prolonged ripening season. These conditions allowed for the development of highly concentrated fruit, vibrant natural acidity, and aromatic complexity.
The winemaking process combines modern techniques with traditional methods to maximize varietal expression and the wine's texture. Fermentation takes place partly in French oak barrels, with periodic bâtonnage on the lees, which adds depth, creaminess, and a complex integration of fruit and oak. A portion of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, softening the acidity and accentuating the rounded notes without sacrificing freshness.
The result is an elegant and balanced Chardonnay, with an approachable yet well-structured character, designed both for immediate enjoyment and for graceful aging in the bottle. MAIN DIVIDE Chardonnay 2020 embodies the distinctive style of North Canterbury: wines that combine purity of fruit, texture, and authenticity with exceptional value.
