DESCRIPCIÓN
Castillo de Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2012 is the oenological jewel of Marqués de Murrieta and one of the great benchmarks of Rioja. Produced only in exceptional vintages, this wine embodies the elegance, longevity, and tradition of a historic winery that perfectly combines classic craftsmanship with modern precision.
It comes from the La Plana vineyard, located in the highest part of the Ygay estate, at an altitude of 485 meters, where the clay-limestone soils and balanced climate allow for grapes of extraordinary concentration and finesse. It is made with Tempranillo (81%) and Mazuelo (19%) , hand-harvested and fermented separately to preserve the purity of each variety.
The wine ages for 34 months in oak barrels —American for the Tempranillo and French for the Mazuelo—and then rests in the bottle until it reaches its optimal balance. The result is a wine of profound aromatic complexity , combining notes of ripe black fruit, plums, dried flowers, tea, cedar, sweet spices, and an elegant mineral background.
On the palate, it is ample, structured, and silky, with perfectly integrated fine tannins and a vibrant acidity that lengthens its finish. The finish is persistent, refined, and full of nuances, leaving a sensation of harmony and nobility.
Castillo de Ygay 2012 is a wine with a classic soul and a promising future, capable of aging gracefully for decades. Ideal for special occasions or for slow, leisurely enjoyment, it represents the ultimate expression of the balance between power, elegance, and character characteristic of Rioja.
