Goodbye to the dispenser: Diageo eliminates plastic from its bottles in Spain

Adiós al dosificador: Diageo elimina el plástico en sus botellas en España

Miguel Angel Laguna |

Diageo has phased out plastic dispensers in Spain , affecting several brands, including Tanqueray , J&B, Captain Morgan and Smirnoff , and over time, its plan is to extend this measure to its entire range, which includes, for example, products such as Johnnie Walker, Cacique, and its entire portfolio.

The phase-out began in February 2025, with the first dispenser-free bottles being from J&B, Captain Morgan, and Smirnoff.

The aim of the measure is to reduce more than 100 tons of plastic per year , which is equivalent to removing dispensers from approximately 21 million bottles annually, as the Bacardi Group Ltd. has already done in the past.

The transition was planned to be completed in 2025, so that by the end of that year no bottle marketed by Diageo in Spain should have a plastic dispenser.

Diageo is adopting ROPP (standard screw) closures, already used in countries such as France, Italy or the United Kingdom, replacing the caps with a dispenser.

This action is part of the commitment to sustainability within the global plan “Society 2030: Spirit of Progress” , which seeks to reduce environmental impact, professionalize the sector and promote more responsible practices.

The use of tools such as measuring cups and the standardization of proportions in cocktails and consumption is being promoted, under the motto "A measured glass is a perfect glass".
